Chemical & Commodity Trader/Sales Manager
Our client, a global leader in the production and distribution of wood-based products, is seeking a Chemical & Commodity Trader / Sales Manager to join their team. In this role, the successful candidate will operate across multiple international markets, playing a key part in expanding the company’s commercial footprint, strengthening customer relationships, and driving sustainable revenue growth.
This is an office-based role in Sliema, Malta, offering a highly competitive salary of up to €65K.
Role & Responsibilities
Develop and implement a clear sales and trading strategy for chemical products
Identify, acquire, and develop relationships with new and existing customers, distributors, and industrial clients globally
Monitor market trends, geopolitical developments, and pricing dynamics to identify opportunities and optimise margins
Negotiate long-term contracts and spot transactions to maximise profitability while managing commercial risk
Collaborate closely with logistics and operations teams to ensure efficient order execution and high levels of customer satisfaction
Align trading positions with supply availability and market conditions in coordination with internal trading and supply teams
Contribute to pricing strategies and sales planning based on market intelligence and demand forecasts
Develop and implement risk management strategies covering price volatility, credit exposure, and market fluctuations
Negotiate, structure, and manage sales contracts to safeguard commercial interests
Monitor customer performance, credit terms, payment behaviour, and contract compliance
Conduct ongoing market research to identify new growth opportunities, emerging demand trends, and untapped markets
Prepare regular reporting on sales performance, margin analysis, and market insights for senior management
Lead and support commercial initiatives aimed at increasing market share and improving trading performance
Education, Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent strong industry experience)
Minimum 5 years’ experience in commodity trading, sales, or business development, ideally within the chemical sector
Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record in driving revenue growth and margin improvement
Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills, with international exposure
Solid understanding of international trade regulations, contracts, and compliance frameworks
Strong analytical ability, with experience translating market data into actionable commercial strategies
Highly results-driven, proactive, and disciplined in business development activities
Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear executive-level reports
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
Willingness to travel internationally
