A Malta-based fintech company specialising in business banking and payment solutions is seeking a Head of Operations to lead and scale its operational infrastructure as the company grows its B2B payment solutions. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will own the strategy across payment processing, client onboarding, transaction monitoring, customer success, and regulatory compliance.

This is an office-based role in Birkirkara with a salary of up to €80K, depending on experience.

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead and scale operational processes, ensuring efficiency, regulatory compliance, and service excellence
• Build, mentor, and manage Operations and Customer Care teams, establishing performance frameworks and succession planning
• Design and implement operational frameworks focused on automation, risk management, and incident response
• Collaborate with Compliance and MLRO teams to embed AML, KYC, and regulatory requirements
• Define and execute customer success strategies, including service levels and retention metrics
• Represent Operations in executive forums, ensuring alignment with IT, Product, Finance, and Commercial teams
• Act as the primary operational contact with regulators, managing reporting and audits

Education, Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field (non-negotiable)
• Master’s degree (MBA preferred) and/or certifications such as PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, or CAMS are a plus
• 8+ years in financial services operations, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles within fintech, business banking, or payment institutions
• Experience managing teams of 10+ and operational budgets
• Deep knowledge of payment infrastructure (SEPA, SWIFT, card schemes), transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and fraud detection
• Strong understanding of PSD2, AML/CFT regulations, and MFSA framework
• Data-driven, strategic thinker with experience building and scaling operations in growth environments
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication skills, and ability to perform under pressure
• Experience with regulated B2B fintech sectors such as iGaming, aviation, or shipping is a plus
