A boutique Maltese accounting and auditing firm combining local and international expertise to provide financial guidance and growth-focused advisory services is seeking a Senior Accountant - VAT Specialist to join their team. In this role you will oversee client accounting functions, ensure compliance, and support both clients and internal teams with accurate financial reporting and advisory.

This hybrid role offers a salary of up to €45K, depending on experience

Role & Responsibilities

• Oversee and review daily bookkeeping

• Act as the main point of contact for clients

• Maintain accurate accounting records and prepare management reports monthly, quarterly, and annually

• Prepare annual management accounts

• Liaise with external auditors

• Manage VAT registrations and ensure full compliance with Maltese VAT legislation and reporting obligations across the client portfolio

• Provide financial analysis and reporting to support senior management

• Advise clients on VAT matters, including cross-border transactions, partial exemption rules, and Maltese and EU VAT compliance

• Assist clients with EXO number applications and act as the primary liaison throughout the process

• Support the internal team on complex VAT and compliance matters

Education, Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar accounting or tax-focused role

• Strong knowledge of IFRS, GAPSME, VAT, and corporate tax regulations

• Experience in preparing management accounts, bookkeeping, and coordinating audits

• Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite

• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken

• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently

• Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and client relationship skills

• Proactive, organised, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team

About the Role

• Salary of up to €38K, depending on experience

• Hybrid role with flexible working hours; core office hours from 9:00 – 15:00
